Thank you for making 2007 a great year for Jones New York In The Classroom!
In 2007, Jones New York In The Classroom donated $800,000 to the 3 following non-profit organizations to help continue their missions of supporting teachers. In addition, Jones Apparel Group gave all non-retail associates 3 paid hours a month to volunteer on education-related projects. Please read on to see the impact these funds had on our non-profit beneficiaries' programs.
NATIONAL IMPACT
Fund For Teachers
47 teachers from Minneapolis, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New York and San Francisco were selected as the 2007 Jones Fellows. Here's a sampling of how the teachers used the grants:
- Study of Euskera in Basque region of Spain.
- Early childhood literacy programs in Sweden.
- History and culture of Mongolia study.
- Global Language Village teach/study program in China.
- Produce a documentary film about West Virginia coal mining town.
- Study monarch butterflies' migratory cycle at Mexican sanctuary.
- Study the Callan Method of teaching English in Mongolia and Vietnam.
- Attend the Creativity Workshop in Florence, Italy.
- Travel through Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama to collect legends and stories from the oral tradition and to observe daily cultural practices.
- Travel to Brazil to study its history as a European colonized country and examine its similarities and differences to American History. [Team Grant]
- Travel to Germany & the Czech Republic to study the events of World War II.
- Participate with an environmental expedition of the Amazon Rainforest in Peru.
- Study autism in the United Kingdom, observing classrooms and residential schools, attending the Autism Conference in Norway and visiting Snoezelen Rooms in Holland.
- Travel to Madagascar to work with scientists studying bat conservation.
- Travel to Mongolia to study the behavior and territory size requirements of the endangered Przewalski's horse and introduce students to the culture and fauna of the Mongolian steppe.
- Aid in unearthing a Roman fort in England to learn more about archaeology.
- Explore West African storytelling by visiting Ghana and recording traditional storytellers.
- A six day field research course from to study and collect data on dolphin populations around Kalamos, Greece.
- Travel to Northern India to explore the culture and history to develop an integrated language arts unit.
- Explore, photograph and document migratory behaviors of hummingbirds in the Huachuca Mountains of southeastern Arizona.
- Travel to London to visit Oxford University, Magdelen College and other London sites for research on the life and writings of C. S. Lewis.
- Mexico to create a video documentary on the Mexican-American War and study Mexican culture, history and language.
- Walking in the footsteps of the masters, a cultural immersion of art, music, theater and architecture in Western Europe
- Explore the relationship between Shinto and Buddhism in Japan and how these belief systems have affected cultural and political life.
- Study the experience and concept of "home" in East Africa in order to enrich a critical thinking, writing and literature curriculum for immigrant students.
- Research and explore characteristics of the glacial landscapes of Iceland and Greenland, while examining the impact of climate change on these environments.
- Travel to China and Tibet to gain a deeper understanding of Buddhism, mythology and culture.
- Travel New Delhi, India to observe, study and learn more about the culture and religious beliefs.
- Tour southwestern public facilities that deal with the US nuclear program to enhance the nuclear chemistry program.
- Travel to Rwanda to gather primary source documents illustrating life in Rwanda after the genocide by interviewing students and survivors.
- Travel to Brazil to engage in a cross cultural dialogue regarding the cultural limitations and advantages when implementing specialized programming for autistic and special needs children.
- Travel to Puerto Vallarta and Chacala, Mexico and volunteer to help improve a local children's center by implementing educational programs.
- Attend the Onshore/Offshore Program for Teachers to study marine ecology and conservation and learn how to incorporate it into the classroom.
- Travel through Cambodia studying and documenting the vast cultural and artistic tradition.
- Attend a ceramic restoration course in Florence, Italy to prepare for an archaeology class and create a simulated ceramic dig site for the Gifted and Talented program.
- Study contemporary Mayan culture and ancient archeology in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula to cultivate understanding and respect for Mayan communities in the school.

In 2007, TeachersCount, Jones New York In The Classroom and Time Inc. revealed a new lineup of PSAs.

Two signature program gives consumers a chance to get involved and shop for the cause!

Jones New York Limited edition t-shirt
- Designed especially and exclusively for Jones New York In The Classroom by Sujean Rim.
- Sold in select Macy's stores, macys.com and jnyintheclassroom.org starting September 4th.
- America Ferrera showed her support by modeling a t-shirt in a October PSA campaign for the cause. The campaign generated 25,754,604 impressions.
- Sold out of 10,000 cause t-shirt in 3 weeks.
Media Impressions: 8,279,700.

Shop For Education Week
- Exclusively at Macy's, from October 13th through October 20th, 10% of the selling price, up to a maximum of $500,000, of apparel sold from the following Jones New York lines; Collection, Signature, Dress, Suit and Outerwear, was donated to Jones New York In The Classroom.
- To help celebrate Shop For Education week, a series of teacher runway shows were held in 7 cities across the country. Shows featured teachers from local schools walking the runway in new Jones New York wardrobes.
- Nearly 1,000 customers in attendance.
Media impressions generated throughout all 7 markets totaled 1,368,925.

Congratulations to the Apple Award 2007 Winners!
Jones Apparel Group celebrated Apple Day on December 13, 2007. The seventeen Apple Award Winners celebrated in New York City with a day of fun activities. The day began with breakfast at the W Hotel in the heart of Times Square, and afterwards everyone had time to adventure through the city to view all the wonderful holiday decorations at Rockefeller Center or get a few last minute gifts before the holidays. Everyone regrouped and met for lunch at Arnos' restaurant with JAG's CEO Wes Card as well some of non-profit beneficiaries from Adopt A Classroom, TeachersCount and Fund For Teachers. During a special award presentation, each winner was presented with a personalized crystal Apple Award, recognizing each of them for the outstanding volunteerism on behalf of the JAG Cause Initiative and JNYITC.
