Cathy Kononoff has been teaching over 30 years with a current focus on helping 11th and 12th graders at South Miami Senior High achieve school level reading. Cathy is also the school's yearbook advisor and serves on the Literacy Council. With so much time and energy spent on her kids she rarely took the time to pamper herself or her classroom.

Cathy was whisked away for a day of pampering featuring a great new hair-cut and color then off to Macy's for a Jones New York shopping spree! All the while, her classroom was getting some pampering of its own. Walls were painted a beautiful shade of "Zen Garden" with "Dove White" trim, bulletin boards were refinished with fabric in complementing shades of cocoa and cream, new furniture included a teacher's desk and chair set, new storage units and a sophisticated reading area completed the makeover. As a special treat for all the teachers, the teacher's lounge was also revamped with a new coat of "Delta Sandbar" paint with "Riviera Dune" trim. The room also received brand new table and chairs for the 150 teachers that occupy the room each day along with other items such as a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and computer table. Both classroom and teacher's lounge were unveiled to Cathy and received with great enthusiasm and gratitude.
